You Don’t Have to Find the Words First
“What if I want support, but I don’t know how to explain what I’m feeling?”
This is a question that comes up when people first reach out to me about Reiki & Energy Healing.
Some have never tried traditional talk therapy. Others are curious about it, but the idea of sitting across from someone and explaining what hurts feels overwhelming. They don’t know where to begin, what to say, or whether they can even name what they’re going through.
Sometimes, all they know is: “I don’t feel like myself” or “something feels off.”
If that sounds familiar, here is what I want you to know: you don’t need a perfectly worded explanation to come to a session with me. You don’t have to pinpoint why you feel disconnected. And you don’t have to unpack painful experiences or retell your trauma.
You can start exactly where you are, even if where you are is hard to describe.
When you want support, but talking feels like too much
Maybe you’re moving through grief. Maybe something painful from your past still feels present. Or maybe there isn’t one clear event you can point to, you just feel emotionally stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from yourself.
You might find yourself saying:
“I know something feels off, but I don’t know what it is.”
“I’m tired of holding everything together.”
“I don’t want to explain my whole life.”
“I feel disconnected from my feelings.”
“I want to feel different, but I don’t know what I need.”
These are valid starting points in my practice.
My sessions don’t depend on your ability to tell a clear story. You don’t have to make sense of everything before you arrive, and you don’t have to turn your feelings into something easy for someone else to understand.
What Reiki sessions with me offer
Reiki is a complementary practice that generally involves a practitioner (me) placing their hands lightly on or just above the body. It is distinct from psychotherapy and medical treatment.
In the sessions I offer, you are not required to revisit painful memories or share details you would rather keep private.
Sessions can be much simpler: take some time for yourself without the pressure to explain, perform, or have an answer.
The process I’ve developed centers on how I interact with you, not just what you’re able to tell me. My intention is to offer a respectful, unhurried experience in which your preferences matter and your voice has room to grow. Over time, you will be able to put clear and distinct words to your feelings.
You can share what feels comfortable. You can also say, “I don’t know,” or “I’m not ready to talk about that.”
You do not have to push past your own boundaries to participate. As a practitioner I don’t pry, assume or impart bias. I am fully there for you as a person.
You don’t have to know why you feel emotionally stuck
One of the things I want clients to understand is that not knowing is not a failure.
You may have spent a long time putting your feelings aside. Perhaps there was always something more urgent to take care of, or someone else’s needs came first. Perhaps you simply haven’t had space to ask yourself what you feel.
In my practice, we don’t need to force an explanation.
Instead, the intention is to create room for choice: what you want to share, what you want to keep private, and what you notice about your experience.
For me, supporting someone means respecting their pace, not deciding what they should feel or telling them what their experience means.
Finding words can happen gradually
In my work with clients, I have seen some people become more able to notice and describe their feelings over time.
That doesn’t mean everyone has the same experience, or that a particular number of sessions produces a particular result. It means that, for some clients, our work together becomes an opportunity to pay attention to themselves differently.
At first, the words might be, “I just feel off.”
Later, they may be able to describe what they need more clearly: more rest, firmer boundaries, room to grieve, or a conversation they’ve been putting off.
These personal observations are not a promise that Reiki cures trauma, grief, or any mental health condition. What matters in my practice is that you don’t have to arrive already knowing the answer.
Reiki and talk therapy don’t have to be competing choices
Some people who come to me eventually choose to begin traditional talk therapy. They may feel more able to articulate how they feel, what they want support with, or how they would like their lives to be different.
I don’t see that as leaving one approach behind for another. I see it as someone making a choice about their own care.
You do not have to commit to talk therapy to book a Reiki session with me. You also do not have to rule therapy out.
My role is not to promise that Reiki & Energy Healing will resolve everything you’re going through and it certainly doesn’t happen overnight. It is to be honest about what I offer and respect your ability to decide what support is right for you. Eventually we co-create your sessions focusing on what you would knowingly like to work on or work through.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Can I book a Reiki session if I don’t know what’s wrong?
Yes. In my practice, you don’t need to identify a specific problem or arrive with a clear goal. You can simply let me know that you’re feeling unsure, disconnected, or interested in the experience.
Do I have to talk about my trauma or grief?
No. My sessions do not require you to recount painful experiences. What you do or don’t share is your choice.
Can Reiki heal trauma or treat emotional pain?
Reiki has not been scientifically established as an effective treatment for trauma or mental health conditions. I offer it as a holistic wellness practice also known as a complimentary wellness practice. This is not a replacement for qualified care, if you’re already in the care of a therapist you are encouraged to stay in that care while receiving these sessions.
What if I decide I want therapy later?
That choice is welcome and also viewed as a sign of progress. Some clients have chosen to pursue talk therapy after working with me. There is no requirement to follow a particular path, and no need to see choosing additional support as a setback.
Your starting point doesn’t require a perfect explanation
You don’t have to earn support by knowing exactly what to say.
You can be unsure, quiet or curious. You can want something to change without yet knowing what that change looks like. These are a perfect starting point to begin sessions with me.
If you’re interested in Reiki but feel apprehensive about explaining what you’re going through, you’re welcome to reach out with one simple sentence:
“I’d like to know what a session with you would be like.”
That is enough to start a conversation.
